Opening Ceremony of the Center for Precision Medicine
Seoul National University Hospital held an opening ceremony for its Precision Medicine Center at the Medical Research Innovation Center on the 14th.
A hospital official stated that the opening of the Precision Medicine Center aims to advance cutting-edge medicine using bio-big data and, ultimately, to ensure patient safety.
The event included a presentation on the current state of precision medicine at Seoul National University Hospital and a discussion on the center’s future development direction. The event began with a presentation by Center Director Kim Tae-yu (Department of Hematology and Oncology), followed by presentations from specialists in various fields on case studies applying precision medicine.
Starting with the design of a cancer genomic panel for cancer companion diagnostics in September 2015, Seoul National University Hospital has now completed development up to version 3.1. In addition, separate from solid tumors, the hospital designed a personalized diagnostic and treatment panel for adult hematologic cancers (such as leukemia) and began offering clinical services in May.
Last year, Seoul National University College of Medicine established an early monitoring system for drug side effects using the Korean Common Data Model (K-CDM), which was developed at the request of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
Center Director Kim Tae-yu (Department of Hematology and Oncology) stated, “We will combine clinical medicine with genomic information to provide more accurate, personalized treatment,” adding, “Going forward, we will strive to fulfill our role as a domestic precision medicine hub through initiatives such as the development of genomic panels.”
